The set comes with eight different sounds all 30cm (12") long. The fine steel shafts are then topped with a "rosebud" or "bullet" shaped tip, which come in variety of sizes ranging from 0.4cm-1.2cm wide to 1.0cm-2.5cm long. The sounds are protected and come in a practical leather, velvet-lined case.

When being used, sounds should be lubricated using KY Gel or similar. Some beginners choose to use a little Xylocaine Gel or similar for the first few times. Keys to comfortable insertion include not using force to insert (gravity should be enough), and a relaxed state will help greatly. Objects to be inserted into the urethra should be sterile, or at the very least washed well with antimicrobial soap. The introduction of bacteria into the urethra can lead to urinary tract infection. As with all these types of products extreme caution and care needs to be taken when being used, with the utmost attention to health and hygiene.
